Kempinski Expands in China

Kempinski Hotels has seven hotel projects in the works in China set to open by the end of 2009. Locations include Huizhou, Qingdao, Shanghai, Sanya, Tianjin, Wuxi and Yinchuan. The chain opened its flagship property in China in 1992 (the Kempinski Hotel Beijing Lufthansa Center) and has since opened five hotels in major cities and a resort on Hainan Island. According to Rene Schmitt, Kempinski's senior vice president for China, the company is now looking to expand in cities with more than 2 million inhabitants.
