Arriving: Korea’s gateway is the Incheon International Airport. Built in 2001, the airport is located 32 miles west of Seoul. The commute into the city takes a little more than an hour, depending on traffic. There are several transfer options. One of the most convenient and economical is the KAL limousine. Korean Air operates this luxury motor coach service to most major hotels and is available to all passengers. A one-way ticket costs 14,000 ($13.40). If your clients do happen to fly on Korean Air, they can purchase roundtrip transfers at a slight discount during duty free sales onboard the flight.

To avoid the bus-stop wait, taxis are readily available with cost ranging between $50 and $90. Advise your clients to pay attention, since there are regular and deluxe taxis. As deluxe taxis are slightly larger, newer vehicles, they are more expensive. Both types can be challenged by larger pieces of luggage. For highly personalized service, hotels can arrange for a private car transfer for a cost of $120 one-way.

Getting Around: Seoul has a well-developed, user-friendly subway system with maps, signs and announcements in English. Currently, 10 lines serve greater Seoul, providing a quick and inexpensive way to get around the city. To assist visitors taking in the city sights, Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit has developed six tourism courses designed for subway use. Visit for details. Additional subway information can be found on the Seoul Metro website:

City Tour: The Seoul City Tour Bus offers a complete overview of the city. For just $10, you can visit some of the city’s most popular attractions, hopping on and off during the course of the day. There are different courses that operate by day and night. There are no tour guides onboard, but each seat is equipped with headphones with tour information recordings available in English, French, Korean, Chinese and Japanese.
