January 3, 2007 By: Travel Agent Central Contributor

Three budget carriers may form a Malaysia-based alliance to fly long-distance routes at competitive fares. The Associated Press reports that Virgin Atlantic, AirAsia and EasyJet are discussing plans for what would be the world's first low-cost global network. Unidentified industry sources said the group has plans to fly between Kuala Lumpur, Manchester in Britain and Amritsar in India, with later plans for flights to Hangzhou near Shanghai and Tianjin near Beijing. Fares are said to vary as much as $27 for travel to China and $695 to Britain.
