New Ultra-Luxe Hotel Opens in the Hudson ValleyJanuary 22, 2010 By: Staff
The gates of Glenmere, the 1911 home of the Goelet family nestled in the rolling hills of the lower Hudson Valley, are open once again as a new premier hotel. The property has been completely restored to offer modern luxury in the surroundings of the original Italianate mansion.
Offering just 19 rooms and suites, Glenmere sits atop 150 landscaped acres in Chester, NY, less than 50 miles from New York City. Guest rooms are available for reservation now, and range in price from $550 to $3,500 per night.
Glenmere was originally fashioned as a 35-room Tuscan villa with a central open cortile. Interior details included marbled column porticos and sweeping interior and exterior staircases.
Glenmere's accommodations include Deluxe and Superior Bedrooms, Junior Suites, and five Premium Suites. No two are alike. Most rooms have working fireplaces, and many offer terraces with open views of Glenmere's grounds, gardens and the lake and hills beyond.
Among the premier accommodations at Glenmere is The Penthouse. Private elevator access leads guests to a two-bedroom/two-bath suite designed for living, with three fireplaces (including one in the master bath), a large formal living room, dining area, butler's bar and expansive private terrace.
Accommodations also include the Goelet Suite; offering three bedrooms, three baths and three fireplaces; the Ogden Suite, with its intimate private garden; and the Duchess Suite, with commanding views and Juliette balcony at the front of the mansion.
All guest accommodations feature custom-designed Italian linens, marble baths with heated floors, blue tooth compatible flat-screen TVs, DVD players, iPod docking stations and high-speed Internet access.
The Supper Room is Glenmere's intimate dining room, with candle-lit tables among a collection of antiques and modern furnishings surrounded by custom-made, hand-painted eglomise panels depicting the hills of Tuscany. Full bar service, light lunch fare and informal evening meals can be enjoyed by the light of the fireplace in the Frog's End Tavern.
