The Peninsula Shanghai Opens

The Peninsula Hotels introduced its ninth hotel hotel earlier this week, The Peninsula Shanghai. Gracing Shanghai's celebrated Bund and styled after a 1920s and 30s noble residence, the hotel reflects the city's heritage as "the Paris of the East."

The new property marks the return of parent company, The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited, to its Shanghai roots after an absence of 60 years. The company operated four of the city's premier hotels - The Kalee, Majestic, Palace and Astor House - in the first half of the last century.

The hotel is the first new building in the Bund region of the city in more than 60 years. Occupying a prime site on the Huangpu River beside the former British Consulate Gardens and the Suzhou Creek, The Peninsula Shanghai offers views of the Pudong skyline.

The hotel includes the Yi Long Court and Sir Elly's restaurants, a lounge for nightlife and lounge for tea, and The Peninsula Spa by ESPA.

A signature suite includes a 11,733-square foot wrap-around terrace, and other guestrooms provide in-room business center capabilities, including VoIP with complimentary long-distance calling services and a fax/printer/scanner/photocopier.

Through February 28, 2010, guests can book The Peninsula Preview Rate, which includes one night accommodations, breakfast for two and roundtrip airport transfers for approximately $295. Call 866-382-8388.
