Travel agents are converging on the Westin Maui Resort & Spa on Ka'anapali Beach through May 15 for the first-ever American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) Maui Showcase, a show designed to give agents the opportunity to immerse themselves in a destination and learn how to sell it.
ASTA President and CEO Zane Kerby kicks off the show today by highlighting the many ways ASTA is promoting and defending the agency community this year.
In addition to discussing ASTA's advocacy and educational endeavors, he will specifically focus on initiatives ASTA has underway to put travel agents in front of consumers, including a new commercial ASTA is producing starring Craig Sechler, an actor who has appeared on Veep with Julia Louis-Dreyfus. The new video/digital commercial is slated to be unveiled at the ASTA Destination Expo at the Fibes Convention Center in Seville, Spain, from June 2-5.
The timing of this year's showcase is particularly appropriate as it falls directly in the middle of what the National Association of Career Travel Agents (NACTA) has designated "National Travel Consultant Appreciation Month." NACTA has been working with suppliers who recognize the value of independent travel consultants, and who are giving consultants special offers during the month of May.
