Maui's Makena Beach & Golf Resort Gets New General Manager

May 23, 2012 By: Newswire

Shawn Sweeney, president and CEO of Landmark Hotels Group, has named Carmine Iommazzo general manager of The Makena Beach & Golf Resort. The hotel, part of the 1,800-acre Makena Resort that Sweeney continues to oversee, has recently undergone a multi-million dollar renovation that refurbished all of its 322 rooms and suites.
Iommazzo was born and raised in Australia, where he started in the industry working in a family owned restaurant in Adelaide. He got his diploma at the International College of Hotel Management in Adelaide, a joint project of the Swiss Hotel Association (SHA), Le Cordon Bleu, and the Government of South Australia.
He then worked at Hyatt Hotels in Adelaide and Melbourne, as well as The Regent Hotel Sydney. Upon graduation, he joined the Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas. Three years later, he moved to Maui, working at the Kahana Beach Resort as their front desk manager. He became food and beverage manager at then-Starwood-managed Kapalua Bay Hotel, and transferred to the Sheraton Hotel and Marina, San Diego in the same role.
In July 2006, he was recruited by Landmark Hotels Group for their resort, The Kahala Hotel and Resort and returned to Hawaii as director of food and beverage. Last year, with the purchase and makeover of Makena Beach and Golf Resort, Landmark promoted him to resident manager of the resort and this year promoted him once again, this time to general manager.
