Puttin' on the Ritz

Maui's plantation-style Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua has announced a $95 million renovation of the entire hotel, scheduled for completion by the end of 2007. Look for all 297 guestrooms to include contemporary elements such as new furniture, porcelain tiles in the bathrooms and flat-screen TVs.

The interior redesign will use indigenous materials—such as coconut and seashell accents with wood grains—as well as rug designs with patterns of Hawaiian tattoo motifs with plumeria and Hawaiian print artwork framed with koa wood.

The renovation also will include a new spa, scheduled for completion in spring 2008. The spa renovation will double the size of the facility and feature garden treatment rooms. Traditional Hawaiian treatments will be offered.

In addition, the resort will unveil an expanded fitness center and movement studio with panoramic ocean views; specially created late-departure facilities with lockers and showers; a new pool bar and grill; and major enhancements and additions to the resort's pools. The AAA Five Diamond resort's restaurants will reopen with new names and concepts. Updated amenities include miles of new hiking and biking trails, horseback riding and a zip line through the WestMauiMountains.

A major change at the resort is the addition of 107 one- and two-bedroom full-ownership Residential Suites. Residence owners will have privileged access to all of the resorts' class services, as well as membership privileges to join the private golf club and play the new Tom Fazio-designed Mauka Golf Course.

The travel agent liaison for the resort is Heidi Denecke, travel industry sales manager. She can be contacted at 808-665-7200 or [email protected].
