Aeromexico Reports February Growth

AirplaneGrupo Aeromexico, the largest intercontinental airline in Mexico, reports growth in February, 2013 as per a series of calculated operating statistics.

The company compares three different metrics to determine growth, based on a year to year study.  The first is Revenue Passenger Kilometers (RPKs), which equals the number of revenue-passengers transported multiplied by the total distance flown.  Taking into account the extra day in February 2012, they are reporting a 4.5% increase.

The company’s "capacity" is measured in Available Seat Kilometers (ASKs), which equal one seat offered for one kilometer, whether or not that seat is used.  It has increased 7.1%.  This indicates the load factor was roughly 71%, which equals the number of passengers transported as a percentage of the number of seats offered, based on the total passengers transported and total seats available in itinerary flights.

The carriers growth could be a reflection of a general increase to tourism in Mexico and, as a result, they have announced continued plans for expansion throughout the year.
