Brazil And Mexico Exempt Citizens From Short-Stay Visas

HandshakeIn a strategic move to increase the flow of travelers between Mexico and Brazil, the two countries have announced the exemption of short-stay visas in ordinary passports for their citizens.

The agreement is a result of a series of negotiations between the President of Mexico, Enrique Pena Nieto, and his Brazilian counterpart Dilma Rousseff Coimbra, which took place last January at the Summit of the Community of Latin America and Caribbean States (CELAC), in Santiago, Chile.  It will allow citizens of both countries to remain in either at will.

Since 2005, Brazilians have had to meet the visa requirements, and from May 2010 Mexico applied CHM immigration to those citizens with a US visa. The Migration Documentation Information System (SIDOMI) and the System of Electronic Authorization (SAE) allows Brazilian tourists and businessmen to obtain electronic visas, further facilitating ease of travel from Brazil to Mexico.
