Cancun CVB Issues Statement on Shootings

The Cancun Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) has issued a statement saying it “deeply regrets” two shootings that took place in the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 18.

The first shooting took place in a local bar in an area of Cancun not normally frequented by tourists. While the Ramada Cancun City and other adjoining establishments suffered minor damage to their facades, no injuries or fatalities were reported. In the second incident, a street taco vendor was shot in the abdomen and rushed to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Both incidents are under investigation, and additional security has been added in Downtown Cancun, especially the areas where the incidents took place.

“Despite these isolated incidents, Cancun, and specifically the world-famous Hotel Zone, continues to be one of the safest tourist destinations worldwide,” the Cancun CVB said in its statement. “The safety of visitors to the destination is the Cancun Convention & Visitors Bureau's biggest priority.”
