Cancun Reports Big Numbers During 12-21-12

The Cancun Convention and Visitors Bureau is reporting that the week of 12-21-12 (the alleged 'end of the world') was one of the most successful tourism weeks in Cancun's history. Hotels across the destination enjoyed above average occupancy rates.

One of the most popular festivals took place at Punta Sur on Isla Mujeres. Hosted by Dolphin Discovery, the all-night celebration kicked off December 20 and lasted until daybreak on December 21. More than 600 people in all-white clothing gathered together. Prior to sunrise, Mayan dancers entertained guests while shamans blessed them using ceremonial copal. Attendees feasted on Yucatecan cuisine fused with Mayan influences, such as cochinita pibil and pave en escabeche.
