Hottest Upcoming Hotels in Mexico

What’s hot on the hotel scene in Mexico? We’ve taken a look at what hot hotels will be opening from the next few months to a few years out and we think these are the snazziest to have on your radar.

Hotel Cacao

Cornerstone, the team behind San Miguel de Allende’s Hotel Matilda, is taking its concept to a national level with the Cornerstone Collection. This development will see a number of Hotel Matilda-themed boutique hotels spring up around the country. Starting off this development will be Playa Del Carmen's Hotel Cacao, which will open its doors this coming September, followed by a Mexico City property in 2015. Hotel Cacao will be located on 5th Avenue and will have sixty rooms in a "hippie-chic" style. The rooms will have bathroom amenities by Italian designer Missoni and will also feature artworks donated by Tommy Hilfiger. There will be a central court with a hyacinth lily pond designed by architect Rodrigo de la Peña. Enrique Olvera, operator of Hotel Matilda’s eatery Moxi, will be taking his first “coctelería” (mixology) experience to the hotel’s rooftop bar, which will provide sweeping views of the Caribbean and Cozumel Island.

Dreams Sands Cancun Resort and Spa

AMResorts recently signed a deal to reopen the Grand Oasis Viva as the Dreams Sands Cancun Resort & Spa this month. The resort will be the 12th property for the Dreams Resorts & Spas brand. The property will undergo an extensive renovation to meet Dreams brand standards. The rebranded property will offer 441 rooms and suites, all with ocean views, facing 650 feet of white sand beachfront in the southern end of Cancun’s hotel zone, as well as eight international restaurants and six bars and lounges; an array of day and evening activities; and 24-hour room and concierge services. The Explorer’s Club for Kids will offer dedicated facilities and tailored programming.
