Little Known Mexican Destination To Host Gastronomic Festival

The small island of Holbox, one of Mexico’s best-kept secrets, will launch the first Gastronomic Festival from August 30 to September 3, celebrating the region’s top-notch chefs and fine dining options.

Organized by the Island of Holbox Restaurant Association, the festival will draw locals and tourists to the small Mexican-Caribbean island located just northwest of Cancun.

Guests can admire the striking natural scenery of Holbox as they stroll down the sandy streets lined with picturesque Caribbean-style houses and sample the great restaurants.

“Holbox is one of the few places where you can still find peace and tranquility, together with art and amazingly good food,” said Denisse de Kalafe, president of the I.H. Restaurant Association, in a written release.

Just 26 miles long and separated from the mainland of Mexico by a shallow lagoon, Holbox is considered to have some of the finest restaurants along the coast with diversified culinary options from Mexican to international fare.

Holbox Gastronomic Festival packages start at roughly $455 and include a four-night, five-day stay at a Holbox hotel (several options are available); ground transportation between the Cancun airport and Chiquila, and boat transportation between Chiquila and hotels in Holbox; lunch and dinner for the four days of the festival at any of the 25 participating restaurants; a boat tour of the three islands and the Yalahao cenote; a 30-minute massage with full ocean views and more.

Clients who purchase individual packages with any of the agencies promoting the festival will receive a delicious lunch and three-course dinner, which includes dessert, at any of the 25 participating restaurants for just $36.
