Look for Mazatlan to Make Travel News This Year

January 16, 2008 By: Travel Agent Central Contributor Travel Agent

Mexico has a habit of marketing tourist destinations already on the map and making them even more popular. This year may be Mazatlan’s turn to take over as the country’s leader in travel news headlines.

Already well-developed with resorts and a popular cruise call too, Mazatlan is the second-largest city in the state of Sinaloa and Mexico’s largest commercial port. Its beaches along Mexico’s northern Pacific coast are lined with hotels, yet all signs point to it becoming an even bigger tourist draw as Mexico makes strides to broaden the destination’s market as well as bring in mega developments. In our last newsletter, we brought you news of new flights to Mazatlan from western Canada (WestJet began service from Calgary and Edmonton). Since then, there’s been more news from the area. Hydra Properties, a real estate development company based in the United Arab Emirates, broke ground on its $500 million Hydra Waves development, which that will include a 500-room hotel, a spa and fitness center, a 1,000-seat conference center, a 100,000-square-foot shopping complex, an apartment building and other facilities situated within several towers in Mazatlan’s tourist zone. A completion date was not announced.
