Luxury Resort Nizuc to Finally Open in 2012 in the Riviera MayaMarch 27, 2011 By: Joe Pike
ACAPULCO, Mexico – As part of our coverage of the 36th annual Tianguis Turistico, Travel Agent chatted with Pilar Arizmendi-Stewart, director of sales and marketing for Las Brisas Hotels & Resorts, and learned the company is set to open the long-awaited Nizuc resort and residences in the Riviera Maya, Mexico by December, 2012.
The project was originally slated to open in 2009 by then developer, Singapore-based Amanresorts, but the project hit a major financial snag when the economic crisis hit. The project was in limbo for some time before Las Brisas stepped up and decided to take over the project roughly one month ago. The company is investing about $170 million into the property, which is described as an Asian-Mexican fusion, Arizmendi-Stewart says.
“We wanted to stay true to the property and leave it exactly as it was,” she says of the 280-room resort.
This will mark Las Brisas first hotel in the Riviera Maya. It will be located between Cancun and Playa del Carmen, just shy of an hour from the airport. The resort will also have five restaurants, at least six swimming pools, an 11-treatment room spa and more. All of the rooms will face the ocean.
Rates for most rooms at the property, which aims at attracting affluent couples and families, will range at about $800-$900 a night.
