The Mexico Tourism Board wants vacationers to remain confident about traveling to Mexico, despite the presence of the Zika virus.
The country has reported 65 cases in eight states. Previously, the country reported 34 cases. However, of those 34 original cases, the country is reporting that those individuals are recovering.
Mexico is combatting the illness through preventative measures and educational materials, according to the latest release. The country is also keeping an open dialogue with tourism destinations and travel partners. Educational materials have been developed, including posters and key facts.
In the latest release, Jack E. Richards, resident and CEO of Pleasant Holidays said the following. “Our Mexico Tourism partners continue to demonstrate their strength in addressing travelers concerns. It’s very clear they are committed to being very proactive to reduce the risk of Zika, especially in the primary beach destinations of Huatulco, Mazatlan, Vallarta-Nayarit, Ixtapa, Cancun, Riviera Maya and Los Cabos. The Mexico Tourism Board sets a high standard for others to follow in similar situations.”
Other members of the travel industry, including Travel Leaders Group, have seen little impact from the Zika virus on travel. A survey, the group recently conducted, showed that majority of travelers aren’t canceling (without rebooking) their trips to infected countries.
“The reality is Zika virus does not pose a massive risk to health in Mexico,” said Pablo Kuri Morales, Mexican undersecretary for prevention and health promotion, in the release.
