As 2015 comes to an end, it’s time to reflect on the passing year. Riviera Maya saw a strong 2015 with the addition of more than 2,000 hotel rooms. And it looks like 2016 also will be a promising year with The Bank of Foreign Trade currently signing more loans to local entrepreneurs. The funding will help build new projects and increase employment.

“For sun and beach tourism, the Riviera Maya is a very important destination for us. We have roughly 40 percent of our portfolio here,” said Gerardo Gonzalez Corona, the finance director of Tourism Investment Projects of the National Foreign Trade Bank.

He continued in a release, saying that the bank’s resources are providing entrepreneurs with the resources to in turn create jobs, resources and regional and state development across the coastline of Quintana Roo, including Cozumel.

Looking ahead, the hope is that the region will continue to grow and by 2017 there will be an additional 4,000 new rooms in Quintana Roo.
