Top New Developments in Riviera Nayarit

Riviera NayaritIn response to its increasing popularity as a beachside Mexican destination, Riviera Nayarit will be expanding with the construction of new hotels, the launch of renovation projects, added airline routes, and fresh entertainment and attractions.

New Hotel Openings & Renovations

One&Only Mandarina will be opening 145 luxurious villas as well as separate private residential estates. The beachfront property will also feature a beach club and pool, private cabanas, a poolside café and lounge, a family pool, the One&Only Spa, Fitness Center and Conference Center for corporate meetings and retreats. 

Matlali recently opened in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle in its own nature preserve overlooking Banderas Bay. The boutique hotel was designed by architect Jaime Barba and features 40 villa-style accommodations, each with fully-equipped kitchens, spectacular ocean and mountain views, and separate living and dining areas. The property will also house the Matawe Spa, infinity pools, a popular nightclub and the Eva Mandarina Beach Club, where guests can order Mexican delicacies like seafood ceviches, tacos and shrimp aguachile.

The Grand Palladium Vallarta Resort & Spa in Northern Banderas Bay has completed four years of renovations that include revamped guest rooms and lobby areas, expanded family amenities and new restaurants, new wedding locations, travel club facilities and a kids’ pool.

Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit, recently began a $20 million renovation project that is scheduled for completion in 2016. The renovations will include improvements to their oceanfront Azul restaurant, modernization of the amenities, furniture and décor of their 131 Master, Parlor and Governor Suites, the addition of two suites which accommodate guests with disabilities. Spa enhancements include updates to the hydrothermal circuit and chromotherapy offerings, as well as the inclusion of a bi-thermal and energetic shower and an ice fountain with peppermint to balance the health impacts of the sauna.  

Marival Resort & Suites now has Mediterranean-inspired rooms with new remodeled bathrooms with oversized showers and large glass balcony doors overlooking the Bay of Banderas.

New Attractions

Cirque du Soleil has partnered with Grupo Vidanta to create a 300-acre, immersive theme park experience in Nuevo Vallarta that will include a water park, nature park and an outdoor evening show performed by Cirque du Soleil artists for as many as 3,000 to 5,000 spectators. Construction is expected to be complete in 2018. 

The beach town of Bucerías will begin the construction of a new artificial reef project, marina and boardwalk lined with new stores, restaurants and bars, as well as an additional boardwalk constructed for coastal fishing at the end of 2015.  

Thirty-four miles of new highway between Jala and Compostela will be ready for full use by summer 2015. The highway is expected to reduce travel time by 50 percent and will feature safe crossings for local wildlife.

New Airline Routes

Beginning June 7, Southwest Airlines will offer a route from Santa Ana, California to Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International Airport (PVR). It will then launch subsequent flights from Houston to Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International Airport (PVR) in October. 

Alaska Airlines will also provide service between Santa Ana, California and Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International Airport (PVR) that will operate three times a week.
