W Hoboken Opens for Business

March 27, 2009 By: Mark Rogers

I used to live in Hoboken, NJ, back in the 1980s, when the only hotel was the flea-bag Hotel Victor, an SRO catering to an SSI clientele deep into the winter of their years. One extended real-estate boom later, and Hoboken is barely recognizable as the blue-collar working town it once was. Case in point: the W Hoboken opens in high style today. The 25-story, 225-room building was designed by architects Gwathmey Siegel & Associates. The property across the Hudson River from the West Village will also sport a double-height lounge bar, 40 upscale condominiums, a Tuscan steakhouse and the Chandelier Room nightclub. Reservations can be made at www.starwoodhotels.com.
