Tsunamis Strike Solomon Islands

More than a dozen people died in tsunamis that struck the Solomon Islands just before 8 a.m. Monday, April 2, local time. An undersea 8.1 magnitude earthquake in the Solomons generated the tsunamis. Alerts had been generated for other countries in the Pacific, but have since been canceled. There have been multiple quake aftershocks in the area, some measuring as high as magnitude 6.
