Up Close: The Equinox in Manchester, Vermont

Fans of American history and luxury lodging can find warm New England respite at The Equinox in Manchester Village, VT.

Great Expectations: The 195-room Equinox has wrapped up a $20 million restoration by renowned designer Geoffrey Bradfield throughout its four unique buildings—the main building, Orvis Inn, 1811 House and the Townhomes. Now, guest rooms feature high ceilings; handcarved wardrobes; marble vanities; floor-length draperies, cozy leather armchairs and a color palette of dark brown, beige and slate blue. Large black-and-white photos of The Equinox, taken in the early 1900s, adorn each room.

Good Company: The property has hosted American presidents Taft, Grant, Harrison and Teddy Roosevelt—a great conversation starter for those who want to impress the history buffs in their group. Equinox’s other accommodations also have great backstory. The Orvis Inn is the former home of Orvis founder Charles Orvis, while 1811 House was once the summer home of Abraham Lincoln’s granddaughter. Foodies can enjoy recent additions such as the Chop House, which serves up mouth-watering steaks. After dinner, your clients will want to take a nip at The Marsh Tavern, a watering hole of presidents since 1796. Interested in sending your VIPs?
