Update: Latest News from Oslo

July 22, 2011 By: Jena Tesse Fox

After today's bombing in Oslo, shots were fired at a youth camp on Utoya Island, injuring "many people," according to CNN. A person has been arrested in connection with that crime, and police believe the two attacks are connected. Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg was scheduled to visit the island, which is a 45-minute drive from the capital, tomorrow.

Two people are confirmed dead and 15 injured in the explosion, police told CNN on Friday. Other sources have indicated that as many as seven people may be dead from the attacks. Police are reportedly asking the public to limit the use of cell phones in order to keep networks free.

The BBC is reporting that Prime Minister Stoltenberg has urged Norwegians not to "cave in to fear caused by the bombing in Oslo…it's important that we don't let ourselves be scared. Because the purpose of that kind of violence is to create fear." President Barack Obama has offered his condolences, and said that the United States is prepared to assist Norway.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack, and while Al Quaeda has been suspected, there is no confirmation as yet.
