Alaska Airlines Adds Daily Notstop Flights Between San Diego and Honolulu

Alaska Airlines announced today that it is expanding its service between San Diego and Hawaii with a daily nonstop flight to Honolulu. The service begins November 17, and complements the airline's existing daily nonstop flight between San Diego and Kahului, Maui, which started in October 2010. Honolulu-bound flights will depart San Diego at 9:15 a.m., and will arrive at 1:15 p.m. local time. The return flight will depart Honolulu at 3:40 p.m. and arrive at 11:15 p.m. that evening.

Alaska Airlines is offering a special introductory fare of $149 each way for tickets purchased by July 25, for travel from November 17 through December 15. In addition, customers can bundle and save with an Alaska Airlines Vacation package to Honolulu, with roundtrip air fare and three nights' hotel from $489 per person.

To celebrate the new service, Alaska Airlines is partnering with San Diego radio stations to give away a plane's worth of tickets to Honolulu at locations throughout the city this week. The "Nuts for Honolulu" events will invite listeners and community members to wear Hawaiian clothing at locations to be revealed by the radio stations for a chance to win 160 tickets and other prizes. Details about each day's contest are also available by using the Twitter hashtag #nuts4honolulu.

Customers can tune in to these radio stations for complete contest information:

•Wednesday, July 20: KIFM Smooth 98.1 FM

Mike McCartney, President and CEO of the Hawaii Tourism Authority, offered the Authority's congratulations for the establishment of the new route. "The success of Alaska Airlines’ flight from Kahului to San Diego, established last October, shows there is continued demand from that region. These additional air seats will help continue Hawaii’s momentum in our tourism economy," he said. "The HTA estimates the Honolulu route to contribute up to $58 million in visitor expenditures and $6 million in tax revenue annually. Increasing airlift to match demand is essential for a successful visitor industry. We look forward to working with Alaska Airlines to ensure success of their new route."
