American Airlines to Launch Chicago–Honolulu FlightsSeptember 18, 2009 By: Jena Tesse Fox
Pacific Business News is reporting that American Airlines will be reinstating flights between Chicago and Honolulu in 2010.
The company is adding 57 daily flights at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, for a total of 487 daily departures, including the Honolulu service. The airline didn’t give a date for the new flights, only that they would start in the summer.
The airline’s parent company, AMR Corp., announced Thursday several steps it is taking to meet the industry’s economic challenges. The company received $2.9 billion in additional liquidity and new aircraft financing, and announced plans to increase its flights out of its hubs in Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago, Miami and New York, while cutting flights in other areas. American called those four cities, along with Los Angeles, the “cornerstones” of its network.
The airline announced in May 2008 that it would discontinue its Chicago-Honolulu service in January 2009, operating the service only on peak demand days.
American Airlines said it will reduce its flights out of St. Louis and Raleigh/Durham, N.C. It will cut 46 daily flights from St. Louis.
