HONOLULU, Hawaii — For the business traveler who is less interested in bells and whistles and more focused on the bare necessities, we highly recommend the new Hilton Garden Inn Waikiki Beach hotel.

As part of Travel Agent’s recent coverage of the Hawaii Tourism Conference, we had the opportunity to stay at this brand new hotel that opened back in June and loved that it had everything we needed for both business and pleasure.

The rooms are pretty small here, but the hotel makes the most of the space. There is a comfy King bed, a microwave, a Keurig coffee maker, a flat screen TV and gorgeous city views of Honolulu. Throw in free Wi-Fi, USB charging ports and outlets everywhere and you get all you need for both a good night’s rest and a productive morning of work.

When it’s time for a little relaxation, the hotel houses a swimming pool with views of the city and a fitness center on the third floor. Drinks here are a little on the pricey side though. But if clients want to have a drink or two and save a little money, we recommend hitting up the Holoholu Coffee Bar on the first floor. Although this is technically a separate establishment, hotel guests are allowed to charge purchases here to the room at the Hilton.

The coffee bar has a happy hour every day from 4 to 6 p.m. and then again later in the night from 9 to 11 p.m., serving beers for just $3 and wine for $5. This was easily the best deal we found in all of Waikiki during our stay. And don’t forget there is a microwave in the room, so if guests want to save money on food too, they can get something cheap at the market and nuke it up in the room for a nice snack.

Hilton Garden Inn Waikiki Beach, managed by Evolution Hospitality, brings 623 new rooms to the Hilton Garden Inn brand. The hotel is located only two blocks from the famous Waikiki Beach, across the street from the revitalized International Market Place and 25 minutes from the Honolulu International Airport. It is also about a 25-minute walk or a five-minute cab ride to the Hawaii Convention Center.

It is within walking distance of a variety of the shopping, dining, cultural institutions and adventure activities for which the island of Oahu is known. Guests can easily walk to the shops and restaurants along Kalakaua Avenue, the Honolulu Zoo and the Ala Wai Golf Course.

In addition, the Waikiki property features 529 square feet of meeting space, a 24-hour business center with a boarding pass printing station, computer, printer and copier. An on-site Activities Concierge Desk is also available to assist with local dining and entertainment options.

Hilton Garden Inn Waikiki Beach recently underwent an extensive $115 million redevelopment and now features a lively living-room style lobby with communal seating and classic Hawaiian design. Guests will be able to experience high wooden ceilings, bordered by gallery-lit Hawaiian kapa prints on reclaimed wood and a color palette that pays homage to the beauty of the islands through natural materials, finishes and textures.
