USAir Cancels Charlotte–Honolulu FlightsApril 6, 2010 By: Jena Tesse Fox
Sad news for East Coasters looking forward to a Hawaiian vacation: US Airways has announced that it will suspend in September its daily service between Charlotte, NC, and Honolulu.
The Tempe, AZ-based carrier, which began the flight between the cities on December 17, will end service September 8 after the summer season. US Air had been using a 204-seat Boeing 767 for the flight, and has reportedly claimed that the service has not been profitable.
US Air spokeswoman Valerie Wunder told the Honolulu Star-Bulletin that the airline will study how the route performs through the summer before deciding whether it might want to offer it as a seasonal service in the future.
"But that will be based on aircraft availability," Wunder said. "In the meanwhile, customers can connect to Hawaii through our hub here in Phoenix."
