Virgin America is celebrating the launch of its new service from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to Honolulu International Airport (HNL), with a splashy Virgin America style welcome for guests aboard the inaugural flight

Upon touchdown of the airline's first flight to Hawaii, inaugural flight guests, including Virgin Group Founder Richard Branson and Virgin America President and CEO David Cush, will receive a Hawaii welcome with a Virgin twist at a red carpet reception that will also include elected officials and leadership from HNL and the Hawaii Tourism Authority. Virgin America also begins service from San Francisco to Kahului, Maui on December 3.

As part of its efforts to plant new roots in the Hawaii community, Virgin America will announce a partnership with Punana Leo, a non-profit that provides for and nurtures various Hawaiian language environments.

Started by a group of Hawaiian language educators in 1982, the organization's advocacy has resulted in an education system in which students in Hawaii may study from preschool all the way through doctoral-level studies in Hawaiian indigenous language. Pre-schoolers from Punana Leo will open the press conference with a pule (blessing).
