Blue Man Group Headlines NCL's Epic EntertainmentMay 21, 2009 By: David Eisen
Blue Man Group is taking its gig out to sea. Norwegian Cruise Line delivered its final reveal in New York on Wednesday, announcing its entertainment options. Turns out, they are going blue. The popular troupe is taking its act to a new venue, the 685-seat Epic Theater, as the pivotal cog in NCL's Freestyle Entertainment. "We checked out Las Vegas and London's West End, but it's clear to us that the face of entertainment is blue," Andy Stuart, executive vice-president global sales and passenger services, said.
Of course, it's not all blue. NCL, with Norwegian Epic, is pushing the entertainment envelope, having developed a bevy of options for adults and families. Epic will offer a big-top tent, theater-in-the-round experience called Cirque Dreams and Dinner, similar to what you can imagine from Cirque du Soleil. The 13,000-square-foot Epic Casino will be the largest in NCL's fleet and feature a Monte Carlo design theme. Laughter will resonate from Epic's Headliners Comedy Club, a 280-seat venue, which will feature acts from The Second City. Fat Cats is Epic's 200-sea jazz club.

NCL held its latest—and final—reveal at Butter in Manhattan, after which a stream of travel agents and media made their way across Lafayette Street into the Blue Man Theater for a small tasting of what's to come on board. Even NCL president and CEO, Kevin Sheehan, got into the act—literally. He was pulled on stage by one of the blue-clad men, placed into a white spaceman-like suit and painted blue. He was then tossed against a white board to create a small piece of blue man art.
NCL Epic's first itinerary departs from Miami on July 17. It will sail Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries with fares from $699 per person. NCL is now accepting bookings on Epic.
