Carnival Says H1N1 Virus Will Cut Into Q2 Earnings

May 19, 2009 By: David Eisen

Though the fear of the H1N1 virus is beginning to ebb, its lasting effect will be felt on some companies' bottom lines, like Carnival Corp. for one. The cruise operator said the flu is expected to have an impact on its second quarter earnings, as it expects to lose up to 5 cents a share in the upcoming quarter as a result of having to modify its cruise itineraries in response to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations against non-essential travel to Mexico. The CDC lifted those restrictions as of May 15, and Carnival says it expects to resume stops to Mexico in mid-June.
