Costa Concordia: Five More Bodies Discovered in SeabedMarch 23, 2012 By: Susan Young
Five more bodies have been found at the shipwreck site of Costa Concordia near Giglio, Italy, according to the Italian Civil Protection agency that's coordinating search operations.
Italian officials now say 30 bodies in total have been recovered, with two people still missing and presumed dead. The ship struck rocks near the island in mid-January.
In the latest discovery, workers found the five bodies in spaces between the ship's hull and the seabed. Apparently the remains were spotted as divers were preparing to use a robot for additional search efforts.
Many victims remain unidentified, although officials say they are using DNA to attempt to make identification of many bodies previously discovered in the ship.
There was no word on Friday when the most recent bodies will be removed from the area. Among the people still missing are a couple from Minnesota.
