Hurricane Ida Wreaks Havoc Along Gulf Coast

Not even cruise giant Carnival has the power to thwart a hurricane. It was a bad week for Hurricane Ida to hit the U.S. Gulf Coast. Carnival Cruise Lines is shuffling now as Carnival Fantasy and Carnival Triumph were slated to depart on Tuesday for their first-ever cruises from their new homeports of Mobile, AL, and New Orleans, respectively.

Carnival Fantasy will now depart from Mobile on Wednesday November 11 and what was supposed to be a six-night cruise will be truncated to five. Carnival Triumph will also delay its sailing one day and drop the cruise to three days from four.

According to Cruise Critic, passengers booked on Carnival Fantasy will receive a pro-rated refund of the cruise fare they paid for the six-night trip. Those on Carnival Triumph’s now three-night trip will receive a 50 percent refund. And, in both cases, passengers have the option to cancel and receive a full refund.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Ida is affecting other ships. According to USA Today, Carnival Inspiration, which departed Tampa, FL on Saturday on a five-night voyage, is skipping a call scheduled for today in Grand Cayman. The vessel will visit Cozumel on Tuesday as scheduled.

Carnival Conquest, which departed Galveston, TX on Sunday on a seven-night voyage, will call in Cozumel on Tuesday instead of Friday. Calls in Montego Bay and Grand Cayman scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, will be flip-flopped.

Carnival Liberty, which departed Miami on Saturday on a seven-night voyage, will visit Ocho Rios today instead of Cozumel. It’s reversing its scheduled itinerary and will visit Grand Cayman and Cozumel on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.

The Crown Princess, which departed Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, visited Princess Cay Sunday as it also sails a reversed itinerary. The ship will visit Grand Cayman; Roatan, Honduras and Cozumel on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
