Will There be a Second Project Sunshine Vessel? Rumors FlyNovember 29, 2011 By: Susan Young
Rumors continue to fly about whether Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (RCCL) will exercise its option for a second 158,000-ton Project Sunshine ship, and possibly secure additional options for a potential third and fourth ship.
Right now, only one of the 4,200-passenger vessels is on firm order for delivery in fall 2014. If the company exercises its additional option, that second ship would likely debut in 2015.
This week, cruise experts online and on social networking sites continue to buzz about Project Sunshine orders, but as yet, the line isn't talking. However, one contractor may have let the cat out of the bag, so to speak.
According to Seatrade Cruise Review, Finnish air conditioning system supplier Koja Oy recently said it signed a contract with Meyer Werft for the delivery of air conditioning systems for the first two Sunshine-project ships and the contract also includes a provision for delivering AC systems for the third and fourth vessels in the series, if ordered.
Smaller than the line's massive Oasis-class ships, Project Sunshine represents a new class of vessel and ship design for the Royal Caribbean International brand. Expect many of the line's signature razzle-dazzle amenities and some new ones as well.
