U.S. Travel Commends Expedited Military Screening

December 22, 2011 By: George Dooley Travel Agent

An expedited security process at U.S. airport security checkpoints for members of the Armed Forces won the approval of the U.S. Travel Association who commended Congress for passing legislation that reduces hassles for military personnel.

"The men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces deserve less hassle at our nation's airports," said Roger Dow, president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association. "Congress has recognized that risk-based screening is a better approach to securing our nation's skies, and we urge President Obama to quickly sign this legislation."

The Risk-Based Security Screening for Members of the Armed Forces Act (H.R. 1801) amends title 49 of the United States Code and provides expedited security screening services for a member of the Armed Forces. This includes any accompanying family member, when the member of the Armed Forces presents documentation indicating official orders while in uniform through a primary airport.

The association recommended a similar program in its earlier report on aviation security.
