Great Canadian Travel Company Offers Tours to Churchill, Manitoba to View Polar Bears

CanadaThe Great Canadian Travel Company is offering wildlife adventure travelers a three-day, two-night polar bear viewing tour. The program is priced at $1975, which includes round trip air between Winnipeg and Churchill, two nights' accommodation in Churchill, daily breakfast and a full-day Tundra vehicle excursion to look at the bears. The single supplement is $260. Departures are Oct. 19 and 25, and Nov. 16, 2013.

There is also a special five-day, four-night tour which features rail travel from Winnipeg to Churchill, with air return (or vice versa). The program is priced at $1875. Contact the operator for departure dates for this air/rail program.

The viewing takes place near Churchill, located at the edge of Canada’s arctic tundra along the coast of Hudson Bay in northern Manitoba, about 650 miles north of Winnipeg. Every fall, polar bears come to the water’s edge near town, waiting to travel out onto the sea ice. Once the bay freezes over, the bears move out to spend winter on the ice. This annual trek provides a chance for the observers to the polar bears up close in their natural habitat.
