Michihiro Kosuge: The Quiet Voice of Metal and Stone - Japanese Garden

The Independent Publishing Resource Center (IPRC) is proud to host a new art show by nationally acclaimed local artist Ryan Jacob Smith, opening on First Thursday, December 6 from 6 Ð 9 pm.
This event kicks off the IPRC's winter quarter of events, workshops, and presentations. The featured topic is Creative Re-use, an art form that Ryan Jacob Smith is very familiar with. Smith says "I chose the title the Young Alchemists for the show because it goes along with the Re-Use them, taking found materials and turning them to 'gold.' " His narrative work explores themes ranging from the earth and its environment to consciousness, the human body, survival and hurt and healing.

ChocolateFest Third Annual 2008 - World Forestry Center Discovery Museum
WhatÕs big, brown, weighs 250 lbs and is edible? A giant chocolate truffle, of course. On Feb. 2 & 3, visitors to ChocolateFest will have the opportunity to see the World Forestry Center attempt to break the Guinness Record for the WorldÕs Largest Truffle. Prepared by local chef Steve Gazda with chocolate donated by Guittard Chocolate Company, and 16 gallons of cream donated by the Dairy Farmers of Oregon, the truffle will be available for visitors to sample Sunday afternoon. The current record is held by Alain Benier (France) who made a chocolate truffle which weighed 100 kg (220.4 lb) on November 30, 2001.

The Dancer: Degas, Forain, and Toulouse-Lautrec - Portland Art Museum
This landmark exhibition, organized by the Portland Art Museum, will focus on the work of three French 19th century artists for whom the dancer was a subject of intense concentration: Edgar Degas, Jean-louis Forain, and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. The exhibition will bring together some 125 paintings, sculptures, drawings, and prints by these legendary artists. A catalogue will accompany this exhibition and will be available in the Museum Shop.

ChocolateFest Third Annual 2008 - World Forestry Center Discovery Museum
WhatÕs big, brown, weighs 250 lbs and is edible? A giant chocolate truffle, of course. On Feb. 2 & 3, visitors to ChocolateFest will have the opportunity to see the World Forestry Center attempt to break the Guinness Record for the WorldÕs Largest Truffle. Prepared by local chef Steve Gazda with chocolate donated by Guittard Chocolate Company, and 16 gallons of cream donated by the Dairy Farmers of Oregon, the truffle will be available for visitors to sample Sunday afternoon. The current record is held by Alain Benier (France) who made a chocolate truffle which weighed 100 kg (220.4 lb) on November 30, 2001.

Michihiro Kosuge: The Quiet Voice of Metal and Stone - Japanese Garden
A special winter exhibition by internationally recognized sculptor Michihiro Kosuge from February 9-24, 2008.
