Carnival Cruise Line Announces Sean Kenny as New Senior VP and CIO

Carnival Cruise Line has announced the appointment of Sean Kenny as the cruise line’s newest senior vice president and chief information officer. Kenny started in his new position January 15, and is reporting to Carnival Cruise Line’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) James Heaney.

"Sean has a broad and deep background in IT and is well positioned to lead us into the future as we continue to evolve our extremely important IT function both ashore and on board our fleet of ships," Heaney said. "We are excited to welcome him aboard."

Kenny, who has been previously regarded as a highly seasoned leadership professional, brings with him to Carnival an extensive background in technology and business operations. A native of Canada, he moved to the U.S. to work for Ernst & Young Consulting where he was the managing partner for major clients throughout the country, including the Port of Seattle, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Ohio, McDonald’s Corporation and McDonnell Douglas.

Following his time at Ernst & Young, Kenny moved on to an international consulting role followed by a shift to the IT services company EDS in Dallas, Texas. It was there he focused on global IT transformation and worked with clients like American Airlines, Delta and Marriott. Prior to joining Carnival, he returned to Ernst & Young as a global client services executive for two Fortune 200 accounts.

The author of The Contemporary Director and a contributor to The Managed Health Handbook, Fourth Edition, Kenny is also a sought-after lecturer on an array of business topics, having recently spoke to a variety of audiences at the Institute of Management Consultants in Palm Beach, Florida and Washington University.

Kenny will lead the development and execution of Carnival’s increasingly important technology strategy. He will partner with Carnival’s sister brands of the Carnival Corporation (like Cunard, Holland America Line,  P & O Cruises, Princess Cruises, Aida, Costa and more) to develop a long-term technology program and governing structure to guide efforts on the corporate level.

Kenny himself holds a degree in Bachelor Studies from the University of Regina/Saskatchewan. He has relocated to Miami near the Carnival headquarters for his new role.
