Over the last year we have been educating travel agents on how to navigate in a growing market. As with any business relationship, it comes down to the people and companies you surround yourself with.

The most talented athletes don’t always win the championship unless they are part of a winning organization. So in this growing market a new challenge is in front of you: Are you with a winning organization? Will you be at a disadvantage because your consortia has been outmuscled or has not been innovative enough to keep up with current market conditions?

For once I don’t necessarily have the answers, but I do know that the consolidation you have seen in the market isn’t over, and consortia are scurrying to position themselves as a more viable partner then ever before. And I can tell you to pay attention and weigh your options based on your needs.

In this issue of Travel Agent we tackle this topic and hope to give you insight from the consortia leaders. All this is good for you as consortia are raising the bar to keep your business. The real money is not in your dues but in your bookings that generate overrides from suppliers. So it’s another win for you as they step up their game to keep you—presuming you’re on the winning side.

Speaking of Teammates…

Pictured at right with me is my daughter, Kate. We recently spent some time at the Iberostar Rose Hall Suites, Montego Bay, Jamaica. She absolutely loved it. For her eighth-grade graduation I took her away without her three other sisters coming along. I let her be in charge and make decisions on daily activities. I had to work harder to keep her happy as her sisters weren’t around to join in the fun. Truth be told, I know she would want her sisters on her team all the time.

Stay tuned.
