Celebrating 80 Years: Puerto Rico in 1985

'Sea Goddess' to Call at Northeast CoastKnown for its seaports and its cruise community, Puerto Rico has always invited visitors into its waterfront community. In our January 11, 1985, issue, we announced the introduction of the Sea Goddess into the area's northeast coast. At travelers' fingertips were the city's seafood restaurants and close proximity in an hour's drive to the capital city of San Juan. (Read the whole article here.) Today, Puerto Rico is as enchanting as it as it exciting.

This year, the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) recognized Puerto Rico as the cruise ship hub of the region, and San Juan will host the sixth annual International Destination Expo (IDE) in 2011. AirTrain Airways and JetBlue have increased service, to begin next spring, and Embassy Suites' new casino joins Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino's new Zen Spa Retreat, among the region's latest developments.
