On Location at Québec’s Winter Carnival

Travel Agent touched down this morning in Québec City just in time for the 58th annual Winter Carnival, which runs from January 27 to February 12. Right now we’re staying at the Hilton Québec, which offers a view of Old Québec and the St. Lawrence River.

This year the Carnival’s popular nightlife spot Loto-Québec will be situated in the middle of the Plains of Abraham, where travelers can enjoy live DJs every Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m and an outdoor Ferris Wheel (bring your jacket!).

At Place Desjardins, families can find slides, a sugar shack, snow sculptures, rafting and sleigh rides. Or, if you’re feeling cold, check out the new Espace Hydro-Québec, where you can rest and raise your glass in a heated outdoor or indoor terrace. Snow sculpture contests, the Snow Pentathalon Skating Rink, nighttime parades and a dog sled race round out the winter activities on offer. Or, for something different, check out the ski joring competition: spectators can watch an intrepid skier pulled by a horseback rider jump and turn his way through a course all while trying to grab rings as quickly as possible.

Visit www.carnaval.qc.ca/en or www.facebook.com/carnavaldequebec, and be sure to stay tuned to www.travelagentcentral.com over the next few days- in addition to a tour of the Carnival and Old Québec, we’ll also be checking out a hotel made of ice at the famous Hotel de Glace and Urban Skiing on the Plains of Abraham.
