Collette Vacations has added a new itinerary to its European tour lineup called “Alpine Lakes and Scenic Trains.” The tour features a cruise of Lake Lucerne and Lake Como and rail journeys through Switzerland and Italy.

Alpine Lakes and Scenic Trains will take tour guests aboard four Alpine railways, including:

Golden Pass Panoramic Train, from Gstaad to Montreux;
Glacier Express, the narrow gauge railway running along the alpine corridor from Zermatt to St. Moritz;
Bernina Express, which will take guests into Italy on the highest railway line in the Swiss Alps;
William Tell Express, which travels through the Gotthard Tunnel, an engineering marvel

In addition to the train rides, tour guests will board a paddle wheeler and a traditional ferryboat for cruises on Lake Lucerne and Lake Como.

On board the paddle wheeler, passengers will enjoy a gourmet lunch, as they head to the city of Lucerne to then go on a walking tour to explore the “Swiss Paradise on the Lake.” In Lake Como, Italy, a two-night stay in a lakeside hotel is included.

Additional tour highlights are traditional local cuisine; leisurely walks along the ancient streets of Montreux, on the shores of Lake Geneva; and a two-night stay in a traditional Alpine inn in the Swiss resort village of Zermatt at the base of the Matterhorn.

The 10-day “Alpine Lakes and Scenic Trains” includes 13 meals, with a starting price of $2,999 per person, double, land only. Departure dates begin in May 2012.
