Summertime on the upper Mississippi RiverToday, American Cruise Lines announced the addition of a new theme cruise aboard American Cruise Lines’ Queen of the Mississippi.  Departing on July 13 and August 10, the Old Fashioned Summertime cruise is an eight-day journey that offers a classic American summer experience full of freshly brewed iced tea or lemonade, ice cream socials, and kite flying off the top deck.

The travel route from St. Paul to St. Louis will showcase the scenic upper portion of the Mississippi River, which is known for crisp and pleasant summer weather, nature preserves, lock systems and Mark Twain influence. Other highlights of the cruise include: afternoon picnics complete with checkered blankets while the boat is in port; barbeque cookouts on deck; a complimentary copy of The Big Summer Cookbook: 300 fresh, flavorful recipes for those lazy, hazy days; and outdoor movie screenings.

In other related news, and by popular demand, American Cruise Lines has added another Mark Twain theme cruise and two more Eagle Society cruises to Queen of the Mississippi’s 2013 schedule.
