European Waterways' Clair de Lune to Sail Canal du Midi

Clair de LuneEuropean Waterways is announcing a new route for Clair de Lune, the luxury barge hotel. This year, between July 17 and September 24, it will cruise down the 330-year-old Canal du Midi. Clair will sail guests between the city of Trebes near Carcassonne and the town of Naurouze, the highest point on the canal.

“It’s quite a relaxing and gentle voyage through some of the most delightful countryside in the South of France,” said Derek Banks, managing director of European Waterways. “Guests will coast past canal-side villages and under charming bridges that make this waterway so special.”

Clair de Lune accommodates up to six passengers, making it ideal for couples. Guests can expect individual attention, as a crew of four will be onboard, including a master chef and an English-speaking guide.

For guests looking to book a full boat charter, European Waterways is providing a $6,000 discount for the months of July and August. Note: This trip must be booked by February 15. We hear, guests can relax on the spa deck or in the spa pool during the journey. There will also be six touring bikes for exploring the towpath.

As for experiences, travelers will cruise across the Fresquel aqueduct, enjoy a private wine tasting in Limoux, tour the old Cathar town of Castelnaudary, which is known for the classic French dish cassoulet, and see the medieval fortified city of Carcassonne
