Ron Santangelo, the former president, North America of Peter Deilmann Cruises, has joined AMA Waterways as its vice president of business development. The move is effective immediately.
The move is timely for Santangelo. In June, Peter Deilmann announced it would be closing its river cruise division at summer's end.
Santangelo joins AMA at a time of expansion for the river cruise line. With the debut of the the148-passenger MS Amalyra and MS Amadolce in 2009, the fleet of ships on Europe’s waterways has increased to six. Additionally, AMA will expand into Southeast Asia this fall, with the launch of its 15-day “Vietnam, Cambodia & the Riches of the Mekong” program.
