Tauck River Cruising has announced its ms Treasures riverboat has captured images along the lower Danube River to add the area to Google Maps' Street View.

Tauck and Google Maps joined forces last summer, when Google technicians worked with Tauck and its maritime partner Scylla AG to mount one of Google's “Trekker” cameras to the forward deck of Tauck’s ms Treasures riverboat. Over the following days, the Trekker captured imagery of the river across Slovakia, Croatia, Serbia, Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania. The Trekker creates a 360-degree panoramic view with the help of 15 lenses, each pointed in a different direction. The views captured by the different lenses are then digitally “stitched” together, resulting in the full panorama. Viewers can change their viewpoint, looking up, down, left and right, by moving their computer mouse.

Areas captured by the Street View Trekker camera during its time aboard the ms Treasures include imagery spanning six countries, from Bratislava, Slovakia, to Cernavoda, Romania. Highlights include Bratislava Castle in Bratislava, Slovakia, the Chain Bridge and Hungarian Parliament Building in Budapest, Hungary, and the Franciscan Monastery and Church of St. Philip in the Croatian city of Vukovar. The Trekker also captured 360-degree views of the ms Treasures' Compass Rose dining room, Panorama Lounge, Sun Deck and other areas. All of the Trekker images from aboard the ms Treasures were just recently uploaded to the collection of Street View panoramas on the Google website.
