Tauck Named "World's Best River Cruise Line"

(c) 2011 Tauck

Tauck, a leader in premium quality tours and cruises, has been named the “World’s Best River Cruise Line” by Travel + Leisure magazine.  The award, presented to Tauck CEO Dan Mahar at a ceremony in Los Angeles, is based on the results of the magazine’s annual readers survey.  Full survey results and a complete list of winners are included in Travel + Leisure’s August issue.

To determine the top river cruise line, Travel + Leisure readers rated each entry on six different criteria; service, value, itineraries/destinations, activities, cabins and food.  According to Mahar, the breadth of the criteria adds to the award’s meaning.

“Too often the focus with cruising is only on the physical infrastructure of the ships, without looking at the total guest experience,” said Mahar.  “I firmly believe that our ships are the finest riverboats out there, but we provide our guests with so much more.”

“For example,” Mahar continued, “guests on our Danube cruises enjoy an exclusive and elegant dinner at a private palace in Vienna, complete with classical music, dance and opera performed by players in period dress.  It’s a magical evening, and it’s not something that people can experience on their own.”

Next month the company will christen its newest riverboat, the ms Treasures, in Germany. Tauck’s first-ever cruises on the Rhone River will also make their debut in August.  In all, Tauck offers a dozen European river cruises on the Danube, Rhine, Rhone, Main, Maas and Saone rivers.

For the 14th consecutive year, Tauck was also named to Travel + Leisure’s list of the “World’s Best Tour Operators & Safari Outfitters,” where it scored a 91.38 rating.
