Viking Freya's wheelhouse collided with a bridge in Erlangen, Germany on early Sunday morning. Two crew members were in the wheelhouse and died as a result of injuries sustained during the collision.
In a statement, Viking said:

| Passengers on Viking Freya were transferred to another Viking Longship. Those on future cruises are being similarly acccommodated. |
"No other crew members or guests were injured, and all guests were transported to local hotels to either continue their journey or return home. A vast majority of those guests have chosen to continue their journey.
"We are heartbroken, and company executives have been on the scene since the accident to cooperate completely with local authorities as they investigate. As this is an ongoing investigation, at this point we are unable to comment or speculate on any details related to the cause of the accident.
"The safety of our guests and crew is always our top priority. In the meantime, our thoughts and prayers are with the families of our Freya crew members."
At the time of the accident, Viking Freya was en route to Budapest along the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal in Germany. Clients who opted to continue their journey were transported to Viking Bestla at Passau, Germany.
Clients with upcoming 2016 cruises on Viking Freya will also be accommodated on that Longship, which is almost the same as Viking Freya in design.
