airberlin and American Airlines have expanded their codeshare relationship to include selected flights within the U.S. domestic route network. Passengers can now book additional flight connections via New York, Los Angeles and Miami to Germany. airberlin says 33 destinations are now connected with Germany and Switzerland on a shared flight number.
Under this extended agreement, airberlin passengers can connect flights via New York from the additional gateways of Chicago, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and St. Louis. Additional gateways also included in the expanded agreement are Key West and Jacksonville as connecting flights via Miami.
airberlin, Germany's second largest airline, says it now offers departures from a total of six cities in Florida (which already include Miami, Fort Myers, Orlando and Tampa); meaning airberlin is establishing itself as a Florida carrier.
San Juan, Puerto Rico, is another of the new codeshare destinations connecting to and from Miami with airberlin. The codeshare expansion also includes flights via Los Angeles. For instance, in the future, airberlin passengers will be able to connect from five new domestic U.S. destinations via Los Angeles, including Sacramento and San José, California.
airberlin has been co-operating with American Airlines since November 2010. The two codeshare partners now offer a total of 33 destinations within the U.S., Puerto Rico and the Bahamas with shared flight numbers.
airberlin is one of the major airlines in Europe and currently flies to 163 destinations in 39 countries. In 2010, the airline transported 33.6 million passengers.
airberlin has signed an agreement to become a member of the global airline alliance, oneworld. Full membership is scheduled for the beginning of 2012, airberlin says. airberlin operates codeshare flights with the oneworld-members American Airlines, British Airways, Finnair, Iberia and S7.
