October 21, 2010 By: Melanie Gretchen

Sao Paulo, BrazilIn Delta Air Lines' first foray into South America, the airline will provide nonstop service to São Paulo, Brazil from Detroit. Introductory rates include one-way fares, as part of a rountrip purchase, starting from $399 each way from Detroit to São Paulo and $499 each way from São Paulo to Detroit between October 28, 2010, to February 25, 2011.

Out of the gate, the first flight will depart from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport at 7:30 p.m. to arrive in São Paulo International Airport at 8 a.m. the next day. Through December 15, the service will operate twice a week. After December 16, the route will run five days a week during Brazil's tourist season. Using Boeing 767-300ER aircraft, the flight will have 216 seats, including 35 BusinessElite seats and 181 seats in Economy Class.

and must be purchased at least seven days before departure or within 24 hours after reservations are made, whichever is earlier.

Keep in mind the introductory rate for travel Sunday through Thursday, with higher fares Friday through Saturday. The minimum stay is three days with a maximum of three months or February 28, whichever is earlier. Blackout dates include December 9-23 and January 2-14 to São Paulo, as well as December 21, 2010 to January 16, 2011, from São Paulo.

Current service to Latin America includes flight between Atlanta and São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Manaus and the capital, Brasilia, as well as between New York-JFK and São Paulo. New flights out of Detroit include service to Seoul-Incheon and Hong Kong, with planned service to Tokyo's Haneda airport, subject to governmental approval.
