Southwest Airlines To Fly Out Of LaGuardia

April 7, 2009 By: Travel Agent Central Contributor

Southwest Airlines announced today that it will begin service out of New York's LaGuardia Airport on June 28 with eight new flights. Three nonstop routes will take passengers to Baltimore and five direct flights will go to Chicago's Midway Airport as the carrier enters the New York City metropolitan market for the first time. Before LaGuardia, Southwest's closest hub to New York city was MacArthur Airport in Islip, NY on Long Island.

One-way tickets to Baltimore/Washington will cost $49 and a Chicago one-way ticket will cost $89 if purchased 14 days in advance. The carrier plans to provide direct or connecting service from LaGuardia to Las Vegas, Denver, Seattle, San Diego and Los Angeles.

The news about expansion in New York comes shortly after the carrier announced plans to initiate service to Boston's Logan International Airport beginning this fall.
